What first drew me to race your bike?
I have always been an athlete – first a swimmer and then a runner. It just made sense to add the bike and do triathlons. But, I realized quickly that I was happiest on the bike portion of the race, so I dropped the other two legs and just stuck to riding. I joined Sturdy Girl Cycling in 2007 and started racing. I LOVED it and the rest is history. What a blast that was.
What motivates me to get on my bike each day?
The wicked pain of a long climb followed by the exhilaration of the descent on the other side keep me coming back. I find that I am usually smiling when I am on my bike. Not to mention the joy of being a part of an amazing team and community of cyclists.
What is my favorite bike related word?
Domestique and chicane.
What is my least favorite bike related word?
Doping - I really wish that would disappear from cycling vocabulary.
What professional cyclist (living or dead) would I most like to meet and why?
I would say Jeannie Longo, but then she rode up to me/us at Liberty Classic and started gabbing. So, I have to go with #2 and say Dave Zabriskie. I just want to know if he really is that funny!
What cartoon character am I most like and why?
I used to be like Buttercup from the Power Puff Girls. But, now I think I relate more to Tigger.
What is my racing style?
I'm an all-a-rounder. I fancy myself a bit of a domestique who LOVES to be in the break. I love to be in the break or to chase the break and reel people back in.
What profession, other than my own, would I like to attempt?
Art Gallery Owner or Curator
If Heaven exists, what would I like to hear God say when I arrive at the Pearly Gates?
Roads? What roads? We only have bike lanes up here!
Proudest Cycling Moment: Riding in my first Liberty Classic and hearing my friends and teammates hollering from all corners of Philly. Coming up Lemon Hill and seein my husband yelling from the lawn nearly brought me to tears!
Most Embarrassing Cycling Moment: Hammer Creek road race. Everyone starts arguing about pulling at the front and working to catch the rider off the front. I get very confused as say, "There's a rider off the front??!?! How did I miss THAT?!" Oops. I started paying a LOT more attention after that!
Big Goals for 2015: Win another Elite State championship. That would be cool. Stay healthy and race out at ToAD again this year! Finally - make my new coach proud!
