The field was stacked and it was SO nice to see all the girls again. I swear that one of the best parts of racing the bike is the amazing community of women that we get to hang with on the weekends. It was great to see them all and to spend a bit of time chatting and such prior to the race start.
The race was fast and furious. The course was AMAZING. Flat, fast, and technical - right up my alley on a perfectly healthy weekend and certainly awesome today. We attacked, we countered, we sat in, we pulled at the front, we blocked at the back. We did everything we could to control the race and work for a break. It didn't work out for us in that respect, two riders did get away at the end, but it was Kacey Manderfield and Kim Geist. We tried to organize the chase, but just couldn't get everyone together.
With just over one lap to go, I came to the front and gunned it. I pulled through about half of the last lap and then turned it over to another rider. As we came up to the finishing turn, Arley was in a good position and ended up 3rd in the field sprint and 5th overall. Becky was 8th, I was 12th, Ky was 13th, Alaina was 18th and Robin 19th. All in all, it was a good day for the Wasabi Warriors in Philadelphia.
The day was made even sweeter when we heard that Kacy had finished 2nd at Battenkill!! What a MONSTER!! She's the BOMB! YAY!
